Uninstalling the GitHub App

Understand what stops working and how data is retained.

Updated: Feb 1, 2026

Before you uninstall

Export or copy any draft notes you still need before uninstalling.

Let your team know drafts and sync will pause until the app is reinstalled.

Immediate effects

ReleaseMind can no longer access repos once the app is uninstalled.

Draft generation and repo sync stop until the app is reinstalled.

Existing drafts remain visible but cannot refresh.

Data retention

Drafts and metadata remain in your account so you can reinstall later.

If you want data removed sooner, contact support.

Reinstalling later

Reinstall the app on the correct org and resync repos.

Generate a new draft to confirm access is restored.

Review and introspect

Uninstalling is a big switch in your release workflow.

  • Is uninstalling required, or can you simply reduce repo scope?
  • Do you need to archive any drafts before you remove access?
  • Who should approve the reinstall if you return later?
